Group Therapy at Canopy

Group therapy is a collaborative and supportive mental health approach offered at our clinic that brings individuals facing similar challenges together in a safe and empathetic environment. Led by experienced and compassionate psychotherapists, group therapy offers participants the opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences while learning from one another.

By fostering a sense of community and understanding, this therapeutic modality encourages personal growth and healing. Participants often find solace in knowing they are not alone in their struggles and gain valuable insights and coping strategies. The benefits of group therapy include enhanced self-awareness, reduced feelings of isolation, improved communication skills, and the development of a supportive network. It offers a cost-effective and empowering alternative or complement to individual therapy, fostering resilience and personal growth.

Upcoming Groups

Healing from Racialized Work Trauma

PART I: Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 9:30-11:30 am
PART II:
Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 9:30-11:30 am

This upcoming group is for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color working professionals ages 25+ who have experienced Racialized Work Trauma. Join us for two sessions where we define and explore “racial work trauma” and how white dominant culture has perpetuated racial stereotypes, discrimination, and racist practices in the workplace. The hope is to create a space where BIPOC professionals can show up as themselves and openly discuss the harm and trauma that takes place at work. We will center the voices and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color as we identify and discover pathways to collective healing.

We invite working professionals in the helping fields, such as medical or mental health professionals, social workers, case managers, crisis workers, or those individuals who have faced micro/macro aggressions at work.

Note: The cost for this group is $40 per session. A $20 deposit is due with registration, and remaining payment will be collected at the time of service. This group will not be billing insurance, therefore an initial Diagnostic Assessment is not needed. Payment will be collected at the time of service.

Types of Groups

To find the best fit for your needs, below are brief definitions of the differing groups available:

Processing Therapy Group - these groups provide a unique opportunity for participants to hear multiple perspectives, gain support, and receive encouragement and feedback. It differs from a support group because it allows participants space and time to verbally process an event, experience, thought, or feeling while gaining understanding and insight with the goal and purpose of facilitating change in one’s life.

Support Group - these groups focus on helping members cope with a specific event or experience in their life with other participants who share common needs. The primary purpose of a support group is to feel heard, validated, and supported by others (e.g. grief group, trauma group, Al-Anon group, etc).

Psychoeducation / Skills Group - these groups are more focused on sharing information about a specific topic or theme. The purpose of the group is to learn new information or learn a new skill (e.g. anger management, mindfulness and coping techniques, etc).

Cost and Insurance

Therapy groups are an insurance-eligible service. We will work with you to confirm insurance coverage/eligibility.

IMPORTANT: In order to bill your insurance, you will need a Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment Plan completed. If you are a current Canopy client, this step is not required unless it has been more than 5 months from your last date of service. Any individual who is not seeing a Canopy provider but is interested in attending one of Canopy's groups will need to schedule an INITIAL INTAKE with one of Canopy's providers prior to the start of group. Again, this allows us to bill your insurance company. Co-pays and co-insurance payments may apply; please contact your insurance company to learn more about your coverage. Our Admin Team will assist you in scheduling this initial intake service. Typically these appointments can be done in 60 to 90 minutes and can be done either in-person or virtually.

No insurance or prefer to pay out of pocket? $60 fee per session, with a sliding fee scale available for those who qualify.
